Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival

August 25-26, 2012

Get outside and go WILD at the 6th Annual Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival held on the Grand Prix Plaza at the Georgia International Horse Park!  The festival is scheduled for August 25-26, 2012 and will be open to the public from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.  The 2011 festival was selected as a Top 20 Event in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society for the month of August.

The admission fee is $5.00 per person (children ages 4 and under are free) and tickets can be purchased at the gate.  Parking is free.  No pets, please.

The Wildlife Festival promotes understanding and enjoyment of the outdoors while featuring animal exhibits, guest speakers, hands-on demonstrations, children's activities, stage performances, arts and crafts.  The 2012 Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival is named a Top 20 Event in the Southeast during the month of August by the Southeast Tourism Society!

Backyard Wildlife Photo Contest!
   

2011 Photo Contest Finalists

Do you have some great pictures of deer, hummingbirds, squirrels, frogs, lizards flowers or other wildlife?  Send in your best pictures to be a part of the Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival's "Backyard Wildlife Photo Contest."  Simply take some great pictures over the months leading up to the festival of animals and plants in your yard, or gather those wonderful pictures you already have, and submit the best to enter the contest.  You can enter up to three pictures to be considered for the contest.  Trail camera pictures are also accepted.

The top three photos submitted will be on display during the Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival on August 25-26, 2012 at the Georgia International Horse Park where guests will vote on their favorite picture.  The winner will receive a prize, and one lucky voter will receive a prize.  Get your camera and capture the WILD things in your neighborhood!

Everyone can find a way to get WILD with lots of fun activities for the entire family. Highlights of the Wildlife Festival include:

  • Shop among arts and crafts showcasing paintings, photography, pet supplies, toys, home furnishings, accessories, jewelry and more in the artist market. 
  • Watch exciting reptile shows and animal shows, enjoy storytelling, and visit the wildlife displays throughout the festival.
  • Walk through the living history section to learn how Creek and Cherokee Indians lived off the land.
  • Build a sand castle in the Beach Zone filled with sand and lots of toys. 
  • Walk through the Reptile Wagon at Jason Clark's reptile display, and enjoy learning about Jason's wild and crazy reptile rescue adventures during the Southeastern Reptile Rescue stage show. 
  • Don't miss the Wildlife Wonders animal show on stage and see many large and small animals.
  • Visit the A.W.A.R.E. exhibit from Panola State Park to view native animals.
  • Vote on your favorite Back Yard Wildlife Photo submission for a chance to win great prizes.
  • Don't miss the pony rides, face painting, moonwalks, and other great children's activities (additional charges apply). 
  • Enjoy lots of great entertainment by local bands, cloggers and dance groups.
  • Eat a snack at one of the tantalizing food booths. 
  • Children of all ages can ride on the miniature outdoor railroad provided by the North Georgia Live Steamers. (Additional charges apply, $1 per ride, funds raised help the North Georgia Live Steamers build a permanent track in Conyers).
  • Be sure to purchase a festival T-shirt as a souvenir!
  • Check the back of your ticket for a bumble bee!  You may be a lucky winner of one of the great door prizes.

 Directions to the Georgia International Horse Park and Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival:

Take Exit 82 off Interstate 20 in Conyers. Travel North approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Centennial Olympic Parkway. The main entrance to the Park is 2 miles ahead on the right.

An alternative route to the Park is via Salem Road (Exit 84) off Interstate 20.  Take Exit 84 and travel North approximately 1 mile.  At Gees Mill Road, turn right and the Georgia International Horse Park Gate A is 2.5 miles on the right.  To continue to the main gate (Gate C), continue past Gate A and turn right at the stop sign onto Centennial Olympic Parkway.  The main entrance will be on your right.
