Conyers Opportunity Zone

The city of Conyers' application to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a tax credit-generating "Opportunity Zone" was approved on December 28, 2010.

The Opportunity Zone allows for new and existing businesses in the designated Opportunity Zone area that add a minimum of two new positions to take advantage of tax credits up to $3,500 per new employee in the business or withholding taxes for up to five years.

The Opportunity Zone covers Olde Town Conyers and the Central Conyers Activity Center bordered by West Avenue, Highway 138, Old Covington Highway and Green Street.

"This Opportunity Zone is really something we can put to work for our economic development efforts," said City Manager Tony Lucas.  "We look forward to working with various entities like the Conyers-Rockdale Economic Development Council and Main Street Program to take advantage of the tax credits this new zoning offers."
